Insurance brokers, insurance advisors, investment brokers, paid investment advisors and mortgage brokers require a permit from their relevant regulatory authority. They risk a fine if they don't allow themselves to be listed in this online register. Their business-related data is freely viewable. The use of this data for commercial purposes is not permitted.
Different authorities are responsible for granting, withdrawing and revoking permissions for financial brokers and advisors, depending on the type of activity and the federal state in which it takes place.
Statistics about the brokers and advisors listed in this register are published quarterly on the DIHK homepage.
The "general good" rules apply to insurance distribution by insurance companies in Germany.
The EU/EEA register details active cross-border mortgage brokers from other member states of the European Union or from other states party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area.
From January 1, 2021, there is no further legal basis for a registration according to sec. 8, phrase 1 no. 5 of the German Regulation regarding Insurance Brokers (Versicherungsvermittlerverordnung) if an insurance broker intends to be active in the United Kingdom. With the UK’s final exit from the European Union there is no further basis for the Passporting system in this respect. The same applies to sec. 6 par. 1 no. 6 and par. 2 of the German Regulation regarding Real Estate Loan Brokers (Immobiliendarlehensvermittlerverordnung) with regard to real estate loan brokers.
Under Section 34d (11) of the German Trade, Commerce and Industry Regulation Act (GewO) for insurance brokers and Section 34i (9) GewO for mortgage brokers, a regulatory authority may publish measures and sanctions that are no longer contestable and have been imposed for violations of the rules governing admittance to and practice of the respective profession.
